I’m working on another page of Shadow Man that should go up by Friday. The point of this Sidetrack site is going to be to toss up one-shot stories within the RK universe, if you hadn’t already read on the other side or otherwise surmised.
Why start with Kagemaru? Besides fan pressure, once things got to the later chapters and he was showing up more, it kind of hit me that a typical ‘cop story’ from a GC agent’s point of view wouldn’t be a bad way to explore the setting and establish some extra little details. The thing about Gun Con is that they are basically the living embodiment of those arbitrary side rules in RPG’s. I used to think it was kind of frustrating that say, a cleric might not be able to ‘Use Magic Item’ because that skill was for rogues (It’s been a while since I played D&D, forgive me if that’s not right or current) even if said item just happened to have a normal switch or trigger in the current setting. Or just who is assigning these ‘levels’ to people in a meta sense.
If that’s not bad enough, some of the higher-up members of the GC Central Guard are actually aware they’re in a fictional universe. When Yamato revealed himself to the group and started doing goofy stuff like creating a name popup on demand, it wasn’t just a gag. Of course, that’s still a pretty closely guarded secret.
